First, *major big ass snoogles* to Kel. Hope you get out of the hospital and on the road to recovery very soon, pal!

More Lena pics, y'all! This time courtesy of J.C. Hey, if anybody is fluent in Italian and wants to translate the Italian article, please drop me a line. I'd sure appreciate it. :-)

Besides swooning over the incomparable Lena, I've been oogling over pics of the late, great Rita Hayworth. Gah, she was a stunner. She had such a warm personality, a naturalness even, that always shone though despite the heavy Hollywood glamour that was piled on her. Not that I dislike glamour. I have loads of old movie books, full of photos of the stars of the 30s, and 40s, when they seemd so much larger than life and flat out iconic. As great as those old pics are, they can overshadow the performer's personality. Rita's sweetness and charm comes through loud and clear though.

And, boy, was she ever drop dead sexy as Gilda!. I can't believe I haven't seen this movie yet. It's on the top of my to-rent list now. I'm not sure if the links to these pics work, but if so, check out this beauty. Luff that smile!

I checked out a bunch of books on Rita from the library. I'm really not liking the biography that portrays her as this sad, victim of abuse by her father. I don't know if the claim is true or not - seems Orson Welles was the only one who ever mentioned it, but what I hate is how the author bases the entire book around it. I strongly dislike biographies that psychoanalyze their subjects ad-nauseam. Didn't like it in Spoto's bio of Hitchcock, and though he didn't do it much in his book on Ingrid Bergman (which I actually liked), still he latched onto a novel that he claimed Ingrid was obsessed with and made endless parallels to its story and Ingrid's life. I'm dubious about how much of that is true. Mainly these themes for these biographies seem more like a gimmick to attract attention and increase sales than as actual fact.

Eh, whatever. Off to look at more Rita pics. :-) Aw, lookie, Rita and a pooch. So sweet.
