Idol thoughts
Apr. 15th, 2004 12:08 pmFirst off, many heartfelt thanks to all my pals who helped me out yesterday. Y'alls kind words and support meant everything. *snoogles*
About last night's AI. Happy to say that, unlike last week's crapfest, this episode was actually entertaining - good performances and a great guest judge in Quentin Tarantino. Can he be there every week? Let him replace Paula or Randy, pretty please.
George: I loathe Phil Collins, but come on, George sang that really well. Pitchy my ass, Randy. I liked it that he brought a smoother, more mature style to his performance. Okay, so he wasn't his usual joyful, infectious self, but still, that was good y'all.
Jennifer: Wowza! Performance of the night! Powerfully sung, beautifully interpreted, not over dramtic. Loved it.
JPL: He should only sing up-tempo Elvis songs apparently. Still "dances" like a dork, but at least this number, like his other Elvis song, effectively camouflaged the fact that he really can't sing. Still just a novelty act.
Diana: Not the Titanic song!!! She should be in the bottom three just for choosing that song. You know, I actually liked her in the beginning of this competition, thought she was a very strong performer, but each week she is getting weaker and weaker. She can still belt the big notes, but she's very flat on the rest of it.
Fantasia: Shit! I really can't stand this girl, but damned if she didn't sing really well. No faux attitude, but those tears??? Ugh. Talented, yes, but I hate her.
Jasmine: I thought that was a good song choice for her - it suited her age and she sang it very well. Stupid judges have no right to carp on her age again and again since they're the people that put her and the other teens in the competition.
John: Son, Casablanca is sacred to me. You do NOT mess with the best movie ever. Ugh. He is such a lounge singer. A lousy lounge singer. Honestly I could've sung that song as well if not better than he did. The judges were way too easy on him. Unless it's their strategy to not piss off his legions of fans so they won't vote as fanatically for him.
La Toya: I adore her. Such a beautiful, graceful and way talented singer. She could've interpreted the song better though. "Somewhere" is not a happy song ya know. Your great love has just been killed, hon.
My bottom three would be Diana, JPL, and John, but since Jon-John are seemingly immune, it'll probably be Diana, Jasmine and I really don't know who else.
